Course Description

Lance Kearse did not learn why he was having symptoms that derailed his basketball career until after he was twice hospitalized for kidney failure. Finally, testing revealed that he had sickle cell trait, an inherited blood condition that hinders how oxygen is delivered to the body. Lance avidly researched how to help himself. He read the work of Dr. Louis Ignarro, the 1998 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his research on Nitric Oxide (NO). While Dr. Ignarro’s work was focused on heart disease and penile blood flow, Lance extrapolated that if Nitric Oxide was relevant for those diseases, it probably was relevant for sickle cell trait. He learned what foods are rich in Nitric Oxide and transitioned his diet accordingly. As his symptoms improved, more and more insights came to him, until he created what he calls “The Seven Doctors.”
